About the role

We are looking for a Vibro-Acoustic Test Engineer to join our talented team. This role is a great opportunity to join a growing team working at the forefront of innovation in new acoustic materials. SoundBounce is a new acoustic material, helping save space and tackle low frequency noise in cars, building insulation, dishwashers, and more. This role is based at Lios’ office in Dublin, with an option for flexible working, and experimental work is carried out at Lios’ lab in Trinity College Dublin. 

The Acoustic R&D Engineer will make use of Trinity’s world leading acoustic test and additive manufacturing facilities to test and optimise the performance of SoundBounce under real-world conditions. Design, problem-solving, and creativity play a significant role in this job, translating customer specifications into products and test campaigns. 

Ample on the job training will be offered to strong candidates who may need upskilling. 

 

What will you do?

  • Conduct vibration and acoustic testing

    • Use of equipment including electrodynamic shaker, impedance tube, reverberation chamber, etc.

    • R&D testing, parametric studies, study of new and existing product designs

    • Sample Quality Control

  • Use CAD for new and existing SoundBounce designs

  • Sample assembly

    • Operation of 3D printer

    • Lab scale prototype manufacturing

  • Design and experimental work on commercial projects

    • Creating and testing new applications of SoundBounce in the automotive, home appliances, construction and aerospace sector

    • Work on our development project for the European Space Agency

  • Occasional mechanical testing

    • Tensile test, dynamic testing, DMA

    • Material characterisation testing in collaboration with other members of the Product Development Team

What will you bring?

  • Experience in ISO/ASTM test procedures and experimental acoustics.

  • Good working knowledge of CAD – Solidworks, Creo or equivalent.

  • Ability to learn new experimental techniques and conduct experiments repeatably to a high standard.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of writing scientific reports.

  • Proven track record in scientific work and a relevant degree, or equivalent work experience.

  • Ability to work well independently, be a self-starter, and bring new ways of working to the research team. Creatively solve problems and take ownership of new projects.

  • Ability to manage more than one workstream at a time and good time management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with internal teams and external partners.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and complexity and open to change and learn.

  • Experience of interaction with industrial research projects or experience working in research within an industrial environment would be desirable.
